Perhaps the most celebrated member of the new Melrose Market is Chef/Owner Matt Dillon’s Sitka & Spruce. Dillon built his reputation with the same restaurant when it was located next to a Subway “restaurant” in an Eastlake strip mall. No small feat. His more recent projects include Georgetown restaurant The Corson Building, as well as Tamara Murphy’s Burning Beast event (read all about it in the Stranger). Sitka is now running its entire operation from this Capitol Hill site, which includes Dillon’s office in the rafters above the market.
The new Sitka has beautiful architectural elements like small-pane interior glass windows and sliding barn doors. To complement these elements: beautiful white-on-black lab chairs. They swivel and have great footrests, and were hopefully inspired by my own, highly publicized version.
Great choice of chairs for an upscale restaurant with a rustic approach. I’m still saving up to try the food.
